5 Reasons to Compost

The “Green Revolution” is taking the world by storm and for good reasons. It is about time humans return to living in harmony with the earth. For centuries, we have created non-biodegradable products, plastics, poisonous chemicals and more. Finally, we are awaking up to the importance of taking care of Mother Earth, our only resource for land and life. In my opinion, composting plays a major role in this movement and process of regenerating and rebuilding the earth. Here are five reasons to compost and join the movement.

1) Free Ingredients - What an incentive to compost? You don’t have to pay for anything. The ingredients are all around you everyday and ready to be used in the creation of healthy compost for your garden or plants. These ingredients are food scraps, paper, leaves, grass, plants, flowers, and more. These ingredients are all around your home and in your life everyday. Put them to use by composting.

2) Waste Reduction in Landfills - The landfills are growing daily and quickly becoming a serious problem for municipalities, cities, and governments. What will they do with all this waste?

One answer seems to be encouraging composting by people. It is estimated that 50% of all the waste in landfills could be composted, put to use, and diverted away from the landfills in the first place. This would significantly reduce the burden this growing waste puts on cities, municipalities, and governments that have to tend, maintain, and secure it. Everyday people can do their part if they just took the time to compost their waste at their homes. Will you take part?

3) Improved Soil Composition - It is a proven fact that quality compost can improve the soil composition in your garden. Some of the benefits are reduced weeds, insects, reduced run off and erosion, while increasing the over biological activity in the soil improving nutrients and plant health. It is amazing with what you can do with a free product, some knowledge, and time.

4) Healthier Food & Vegetation - Your crops are a by product of everything that goes into them. By taking these natural products and allowing them to breakdown into your fertilizer, you reduce the need for chemicals treatments that are harmful to your food, plants, and ultimately your health. Compost is all natural and works to create healthier, happier food for you and vegetation as well.

5) Superior Fertilizer - The bottom line on compost is it is a superior fertilizer. Once reason is the elements are made of, for, and by the earth. Returning these waste products to the soil creates the need nutrients and condition necessary to produce quality crops and plants.

There are many more reasons to compost, but it is my hope to have sparked some curiosity in you to get you to further investigate this opportunity more. Composting can help change the world, if people participate. So, if you are considering joining the green movement, think about composting. It is not going to cost you much but some time, free ingredients and a little study to figure out how to do it correctly.

Do your part and protect Mother Earth!
